Fun in the Son
By Nancy Brant
Music by Nancy Brant and David Hampton Arranged by Marty Hamby
All around us there are those who are searching for answers to life's deepest questions. Our greatest challenge as Christians is to live pure lives that point people to the only answer to these questions, Jesus Christ. As I began to pray about what my choir kids needed to learn so their lives would truly "shine" for Jesus, the idea for "Fun in the Son" was born in my heart. My choir kids have grown up in a Bible-believing church where the word of God is preached and cherished. They have hidden many life-changing scriptures in their hearts. But they didn't seem to understand how to LIVE those truths so they could become "lights in a dark world." I asked God for a musical that would teach them how to live their faith. The musical is based on Deuteronomy 10:12-13. As the children of Israel entered the Promised Land, they asked Moses what they should do to please God. He replied: "And now, O Israel, what does the Lord your God ask of you but to fear the Lord your God, to walk in all His ways, to love Him, to serve the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul, and to observe the Lord's commands and decrees that I am giving you today for your own good." "Fun in the Son" is a musical fantasy set in a beach paradise known as "Lighthouse Point." The local kids love the beach because of the wise old lighthouse keeper named "Beamer" who teaches them "lighthouse lessons" about living for the Lord. Beamer uses his friends the Starfish, Sandy Claws the crab, and 3 country cowboys on sea horses to teach the kids what it means to be "the light of the world." Using the 5 points of the starfish, Beamer teaches them the 5 lessons of Deuteronomy 10. With beautiful illustrations from God's creation, your kids, and your audience, will discover the power of God's love that enables us to be "the light of the world" as we shine for Jesus.
